What Is A Stubby, Koozie, Cooler, Stubbie?
They go by many names in different parts of the world, be it stubby, stubbie, koozie, cooler, holders - but they are basically all the same product - an insulated can and bottle holder designed to wrap around your drink's can or bottle to keep your chilled drinks colder for longer.
So Why Do I Need One?
If you've ever been to a party, sporting event or BBQ on a hot day you will know how refreshing a nice cold drink is. Not many people like a luke warm drink on a hot day, especially when your drink starts off cold and the dregs at the bottom are luke warm when you try to finish your drink. This was a major problem in hot climate countries where alot of expense was outlayed to chill drinks before drinking, only for them to be warm within 5 minutes of being taken from the refrigerator. So it was through necessity to keep drinks colder for longer that the stubby, koozie, coolers were borne.
I've Not Seen These Before - Where Are They From?
The idea to use insulated materials to keep drinks cool orginated in the far east and Australia but were soon available in other locations with humid climates such as Florida and California. They continue to be extremely popular in Australia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia - if you've ever been to any of these countries then your will probably have already seen them in action and know how good they are!
What Are They Made Of?
There are many types of cooler available, most of which sport some type of logo which personalises the holder. There are two basic types of stubby, one which is rigid plastic on the outside with a foam or polystyrene lining and the other is made from an insulated material such as neoprene. The England Coolers stubbies are made from 5mm thick neoprene, which is the same material as used in wet suits, and are thicker than many of the 3mm other products available. Being made from neoprene means that they can stretch around the can or bottle which we prefer to the plastic/polystyrene alternatives which are rigid and can sometimes mean there is a gap between the bottle or can and the holder.
